Nutraceuticals/Food
Nutraceuticals are products that are isolated from herbal products, dietary supplements (nutrients), specific diets, and processed foods such as cereals, soups, and beverages that other than nutrition are also used as medicine.
Food manufacturing and food processing are industries that transform livestock and agricultural products into products for immediate or final consumption. These two definitions differ in that the former refers to food products created with equipment and machinery, while the latter describes processes that could be performed by home cooks, albeit in smaller quantities.
The NSF, National Sanitation Foundation, is a non-profit organization that was founded to create standards for food safety and sanitation to promote public health (www.nsf.org). NSF International is an accredited, independent third-party certification body that tests and certifies if a product complies with all standard requirements for safety, quality, or performance. Products that meet these standards bear the NSF mark.
